Leaving aside the second title which we will talk about later, Devil May Cry 1 and Devil May Cry 3 remain enjoyable even in 2018, even after playing Platinum Games titles. Being a remaster and not a remake, no one asked Capcom the impossible, no one asked the company to make Devil May Cry 2 a masterpiece, but a few small additions to make the titles more enjoyable more than 15 years later would certainly have been appreciated.įortunately, the extremely negative balance so far clears up when we are able to talk about the impact that titles can have on players after 2 generations. The only positive note from this point of view is the presence of the Special Edition of Devil May Cry 3, which therefore brings with it the rebalancing of the infernal difficulty of the third chapter of the series.

None of the small flaws - some even easily remedied - that the games bring with them have been fixed or compensated for by a few small changes. Obviously, as Capcom's behavior on the technical side already suggested, there are no improvements of any kind in the 3 games. The latter is not only reflected on the cut-scenes but also on a couple of missions of the third chapter of the saga. Some of these non-remastered aspects are indeed even evidently worse than their Playstation 2 counterparts, due to warped images in some videos and an aliasing effect that spoils the colors. The presentation of the levels is certainly very pleasant and can boast a granite framerate, but the laziness demonstrated from Capcom in every other sector makes it difficult to justify the price of this renewed edition. So you have videos in very low resolution CGI, video in game graphics with horizontal black bands and even Menus in 4: 3 with resolution from PlayStation 2. Anything other than the level of play itself has been left as it was in the original titles.

The 3 titles are re-proposed in an excellent 16: 9 with 1080p resolution, in an improved version compared to the collection for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, but these improvements are limited only to the game phases. The collection of Dante's adventures in Devil May Cry HD Collection is essentially very lazy. With a good job of remastering it is possible to overcome the problems that aging a game entails, but this unfortunately does not happen in the Devil May Cry HD Collection. Nowadays though having the same impact on the gamer for a title like Devil May Cry HD Collection is more complex mainly because of the later works of his own "father".ĭespite this Capcom has decided to revive the original trilogy of Dante's adventures on the current generation through a remastered edition, perhaps in order to test the waters for a possible sequel, perhaps to complete the circle by making the entire saga available on the console of current generation and PC.

At a time when three-dimensional games were still looking for their own winning formula, Hideki Kamiya pulled a title out of his hat. Spectacular: This was the key word used to describe Devil May Cry at the time of its release back in 2001.
